Kick-Off Party
1 Nov 2008: Lovely people at Geek Terminal opened their doors for our NaNoWriMo 2008 Kick-Off Party.
Our biggest WriMo turnout ever, 44 writers turned up, greeted by renovak, got a goodie bag from ravensilvers, took part in the Goodie Bag and Oldbie quizzes ajudicated by ravensilvers, introduced themselves, read from their winning entries in the Pimp My Sentence Contest, named a Ninja Plot Bunny (Vicious the Adorable Bunny), drank coffee, chocolate, tea and other stuff, won spot prizes, learned how to send their internal editor on holiday, took part in the AlphaSmart game that maisarah read out, chatted, mingled, lit ten candles on the huge cake and sang Happy Birthday to NaNoWriMo, ate the cake, ate more cake, talked more, played a game of some sort on a big plastic thing, and all of it livestreamed by nerwen on her laptop. Then we went home.
And a lovely time was had by all.
Geek Terminal
10 Oct 2008: A new venue in 2008 for Singapore NaNoWriMo events.
Geek Terminal at 55 Market Street near Raffles MRT is now one of Singapore Novelists' official write-in venues.
With great coffee, free wi-fi, comfy chairs and central location, we're looking forward to our Kick-off Party on November 1, 2.30-5.00pm.
Well done to Lena, Viki and Maisarah for arranging all of this and thanks to Michael at GT!

Municipal Liaison in Training
1 Oct 2008
Viki Chua aka Raven Silvers is Singapore's new ML-in-waiting for next year's NaNoWriMo.
This year she'll be taking on some of the ML-ing duties, like meet-and-greet PMs to newbies, taking charge of a couple of write-ins (okay, so that's basically showing up!) and various other behind-the-scenes stuff that MLs do.
Next year she'll have her ML superpowers so be nice to her!
Young Writers Program
29 Sept 2008For the first time ever Singapore has a school taking part in NaNoWriMo's Young Writers Program (to use the US spelling).
Rosemary Lim, aka rozen, is going to use the YWP with a Sec 1 group from Raffles Institution. Very exciting times, especially as November will be school holidays for non-exam takers so the usual YWP format will have to be different for Singapore.
Any teachers wanting to try the YWP with their school? Feel free to contact novelist@singapore-novelists.com.
Self-funding
1 Sept 2008
National Novel Writing Month is absolutely free for everyone. In 2006 and 2007 we received a grant from the National Arts Council of Singapore to help buy some Alphasmart Pros and pay for some of the catering at our write-ins and meet-ups and the little prizes we like to give out to encourage some friendly competition.
In 2008 we're once again self-funding, which means basically we pay for everything ourselves and rely on a few generous donors for things like prizes, website, goodie bags and so on.
That is why this year we have Google Ads on the site.
