We are the Happy Smiley Writers Group for most of the year and in November we become the MLs and worker bees for the Singapore Chapter of National Novel Writing Month, better known around the world as NaNoWriMo. Never heard of it? ... Like we care. We know who we are.

National Novel Writing Month is a month-long challenge to write a 50,000-word novel in November.

The Singapore Chapter has over 600 registered participants. And it doesn't cost anyone a single cent! (Which is possibly why the press ignore us.) If you want to write, just pick up a pen and write.

Okay, admittedly if you want coffee you have to buy your own. Cake is supplied by us, thanks to a grant from the NAC, along with goodie bags and writers' kits and prizes and other stuff, like stickers, by The Office of Letters and Light, and we also scrounge things off donors and put Happy Smiley money in too. But for you, the writer, it is free!

Singapore Novelists

What: Fiction. And in November, novels.

Why: We like it. And in November because we're slightly crazy.

Where: We are homeless! The Arts House security staff made our lives so difficult last November that we are boycotting it now. Although earshot staff are lovely.

When: All the time. And especially in November.

How: Very, very fast.
